Horseshoe Bend sunrise Page, ArizonaThis is my perspective on the iconic view of Horseshoe Bend. This image is particularly special from all of the images in my portfolio. The reason for this is based on the fact that I don't believe you can achieve this composition due to the new railing and paved walk way that has been built since 2016 when this image was captured. The jutting canyon rock in the bottom left rule of thirds corner was ruining my composition as I did not want it in the Colorado river portion of this scene. In order for me to achieve this; I had a very trustworthy friend hold my legs as I suspended the upper half of my body over the thousand foot canyon wall while holding my camera attached to my tripod on the outer edge. It was the only solution to achieve this composition; and you know what they say-"risk it for the biscuit".Horseshoe Bend was formed by water following its natural path of least resistance. The sheer Cliff walls are made of Navajo Sandstone, a particularly dense type of sandstone. In the process of erosion, the sandstone acted as a natural barrier, forcing the water to make a sharp bend in the river thorough softer rocks.The Colorado River is about 1000 ft below you, the blue green color is always 40 degrees because it flows from the bottom on the Glen Canyon Dam.
