I photographed this scene on a partly cloudy afternoon this spring, during a moment when the sun was tucked behind the clouds. The diffused light softened the entire gorge, eliminating harsh shadows and allowing the colors and textures of the rock, water, and early spring foliage to speak for themselves. With a long exposure, I captured the silky motion of the water in contrast to the stillness of the stone—bringing out a quiet, meditative quality in the scene.
